Most animals give birth naturally without any complications. However, occasionally mothers may need a little help with delivery. At Huron East Animal Hospital, we usually attempt to resolve the problem using medical therapy first. If that doesn’t work, we will perform a caesarean section.
During a c-section, the mother is safely sedated, and an incision is made along her abdomen and through the uterus to retrieve her unborn puppies or kittens. In some cases, we may recommend that the mother also be spayed during this procedure, usually to prevent future problems of this nature.
