Dr. Laura Cristancho, DVM

I graduated as a veterinarian in Colombia in 1991 and moved to Canada in 2001.

After doing a Master of Science program in the Pathobiology Department at the University of Guelph in 2006, I worked for a poultry-vaccine-producing laboratory for a short time. I assisted at several veterinary clinics and hospitals in New Hamburg, Elora, and Waterloo while completing the VSTEP training in 2010. I obtained my license to practice Veterinary Medicine in Ontario in 2015.

My most rewarding experience so far has been working as a part-time veterinarian at Waterloo West Animal Hospital, and as a Locum veterinarian for some small animal practices around the region.

I currently live in Kitchener with my Husband Raul and my adorable German Shepherd, Whiskey.

My goals are to focus in preventive medicine and client education. I strive to make all my clients and patients feel welcome when visiting our hospital.

I am fluent in English as well as Spanish.

Dr. Reuben Ong, DVM

Dr Reuben Ong was born and raised in Malaysia. He came to Canada in 2008 to attend the University of Guelph, where he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Science. He was later accepted into the Ontario Veterinary College in 2013 and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Dr. Reuben enjoys the various aspects of veterinary medicine, particularly the surgical side of the profession, as well as educating owners on how to keep their beloved pets healthy and happy. When he is not working at the clinic, he spends most of his spare time watching movies and TV shows, singing and visiting various restaurants and coffee places around Kitchener and Waterloo with his partner.

Cassi, Office Manager/Veterinary Assistant

I graduated with distinction from University of Guelph: Ridgetown College in 2011 from their Veterinary Office Administration program. I have been working in clinics since 2012 as a Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist.

I had a short break from working in clinic to have my son in 2015 and recently moved back to the Kitchener area. I have a passion for client education and rescuing/connecting with rescue animals.

At home I like to spend my time with my family, which includes three dogs, two cats and a bearded dragon. Half of my pets are rescue animals and have enriched my life completely.

Ashley, Registered Veterinary Technician

I graduated with distinction from University of Guelph: Ridgetown College in 2017 from their Veterinary Technician program. I obtained my Registration on Dec. 11, 2017 and have been a member of high standing since. Immediately upon graduating I started working at OVC in the Large Animal sector. I had missed working with dogs and cats so much that I decided to also look into working at a small animal clinic. The skills I have cultivated from working in large animal have been transferable and very useful during emergency procedures. I am confident and comfortable in all aspect of clinic work from surgeries to routine appointments; your pets are in good hands with me. At home I have a great dane and a horse. If I am not at work, I am often out in the field.

Laura, Registered Veterinary Technician

I graduated in April 2019 from Sheridan College’s Veterinary Technician program. I obtained my registration license on August 12th, 2019 and have been a member of high standing with the OAVT since. In September 2019 I completed the Recover Basic and Advanced Life Support course and obtained my CPR Certification. I have been working in small animal practice throughout schooling and continued to focus my career in this division. It is hard to pick a specific part of my job that I like the most because it is all so wonderful, however I do have a special place in my heart for surgery and critical care cases. Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors; camping, hiking or reading a good book on the patio. I currently have a dachshund named Shadow that lives at home with my family.

Alex, Receptionist/Veterinary Assistant

My journey began as a shy co-op student with a love for animal care. I started my placement in the clinic in the winter of 2018 and fell in love with the profession. I grew up primarily alongside dogs and cats, but there was also the occasional rodent that helped flourish my love of animals. Following the completion of my placement and having built a considerable skillset, I was offered a part-time job as a veterinary assistant/receptionist at Huron East Animal Hospital as well as our sister clinic; Waterloo West Animal Hospital in the spring of 2019. Throughout my time as a co-op student and personal experience, I have had plenty of time to develop and grow my comfort level in dealing with all sorts of patients that come into our care. I am always learning new things and working towards my dream of becoming a Veterinary Technician.

If I’m not at work greeting you at our reception desk, answering the phones, or helping your furry friend in our back treatment area – I’m probably snuggled up at home with my two rescue cats and three dwarf rats.

Confetti (Resident cat)

I am a sassy domestic shorthair. I was rescued in 2016 by Dr. Laura. I love spending my days greeting all the clients and sleeping at the reception desk. I love all the attention I get but sometimes I like to play bite. You can usually spot me waiting at the front door for the next patient to arrive.
