National Pet Day is coming up on April 11th. Our feline friends are definitely something to celebrate! Kitties bring a lot of love and laughter into our lives, and just help turn our houses into homes. Children also benefit from having cats. Fluffy provides our little ones with friendship, love, comfort, and, of course, entertainment. (She’s also a great napping buddy, but that’s another topic.) Read on as an Ayr, ON vet lists some things the kids can make for your furry pal.
Kitties are always cute, but they are at their most adorable when they are hard at play. Catnip mice can make purrfect gifts for your feline buddy! Of course, Fluffy doesn’t really care what her toys actually look like. She’s fine with squares, circles, triangles, or any other random shape. Take two pieces of material, and cut them into the same shape. Put one on top of the other, with the outsides facing in. Sew around the edges, leaving a little gap. Turn it right-side-out, then fill with catnip and close it up. Voila! Instant happy cat.
Our feline companions are small, but they certainly do have us mere humans wrapped around their paws. Fluffy even convinced the ancient Egyptians to treat her as a deity! Fluffy will definitely be pleased with a box castle. This can be as simple as just putting two boxes together, and adding doors for them. Or, you can go all-out, and add features such as turrets and balconies. (Her Furry Highness would also enjoy a stocked moat and a catnip garden, but that’s probably a bit much.)
There are plenty of pieces of pet furniture you can make your furball. If Fluffy doesn’t have a cat tower, you can make one out of an old stepladder or shelving unit. Add wide planks to make a place for your kitty to sprawl out and look unimpressed. Then, wrap the whole thing in wire or sisal rope.
Does your kitty like catnip? Plant a small container of it, so you’ll always have fresh leaves. Cat grass is also very popular with our feline pals. You can even make Fluffy a little lawn by planting some in a storage tote or an old litterbox.
